Nicole Bogott, CEO of Philia, was the first guest of the first part of series of the Global Diplomacy conference.
Besides heading Philia Nicole is a published author and entrepreneur. She analyses power dynamics in the international context. Her work on power and equality led Nicole to create Philia, as it is an international platform focusing on the inner, the relational and the community dimensions of empowerment and leadership.
Her research on power and governance is featured in her upcoming book and academic conference series evaluating the future of democracy by analysing various forms of civic participation and governance systems.
Further, Nicole has created the impACT Network, a community-driven solidarity platform for social entrepreneurs launching bottom-up solutions for global impact and a more ethical economy.
Nicole discussed the topic of Power and Society together with Luiza Souza.
Luiza is a lawyer licensed by the Order in Brazil and Portugal. She is currently a master’s student in Human Rights of the University of Minho, where she is developing research in the area of migration, right to asylum and refugees.
Previously, Luiza has been awarded an MBA in International Relations at Fundação Getúlio Vargas and a postgraduate degree in Public Law at Universidade Gama Filho, both in Rio de Janeiro, where she also completed her law degree, at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. She worked as a legal advisor in the Public Ministry of the State of Rio de Janeiro, as a Legal Protection Agent in the Assistance Program for Refugees and Asylum Seekers from Cáritas RJ and volunteered at NGO Be Aware And Share, which promotes an informal education program for refugee children and adolescents on the island of Chios, Greece.
Human rights and the protection of vulnerable populations have always been her main topic of interest, both in academic and professional life.
