The Social Entrepreneurship Movement

impACT goes Beirut

27 February 2018 , , Philia

In February 2018, impACT launched in Beirut, Lebanon. Together with the Entrepreneurship Club, led by A’laa Chbaro, Philia took the lead on organising a popup event at the American University of Beirut (AUB).

Why Beirut? It is a hub for social entrepreneurs with a vibrant and thriving modern ecosystem. Philia co-founder Nicole Bogott met A’laa Chbaro at a SenseCamp organised by the social entrepreneurship organisation MakeSense. They had roughly three weeks to tie it all together so that the popup event could take place successfully.

A’laa, a power house herself, is well connected to the social startup scene in Lebanon and managed to pull off an exhibition with around fifteen social enterprises and could secure top notch speakers for the three hour event. Amongst them were Dr. Teresa Chahine from Alfanar, Rami Panayoti from Middle East Venture Partners and Ramy Boujawdeh from Berytech to name a few of the excellent speakers. The event was hosted by Youmna Naufal, a well known influencer in Lebanon and former TV anchor. She currently heads Y Chats, Lebanon’s first up close and personal chat show in the English language where discussions with guests range from political to social and cultural.

impACT Beirut was a real success with over 150 attendees. The event was sponsored by United Nations Global Compact Network Lebanon, Oxfam and The Entrepreneurship Club AUB. We are proud to announce that an international event is undergoing planning by A’laa in order to leverage the momentum that has been created in February 2018.
